Mandela's mission was all about equality but after his death will that stay in place. The LGBT community is worried that the government will change the laws of homosexual equality mirroring the other country on the continent of Africa. South Africa was one of the places in the world that opened the door for the LGBT community. In 1996 South Africa created law a law banning discrimination do to sexual orientation. And in 2006 laws passed for the rights of same sex marriages in South Africa. Mandela was not alway comfortable with homosexuality but stood for equality for all.
